What I find most troubling about your article, however, is
that your arguments nearly squeeze out the best reason for increased
teacher pay. High teacher salaries would fill our schools
with well-qualified and enthusiastic teachers. Those schools
would fill our communities with thoughtful and creative
citizens. Those citizens would become the entrepreneurs,
artists, healers, and leaders that could make America the light of the
world. Raising the salaries for teachers raises the quality
of life for everyone. That’s the only argument
this taxpayer has ever needed to hear, but it makes only a cameo
appearance in your article on this important issue.
