“It worked! I moved away!”

I haven’t lived in Beverly
Or driven there in years.
I moved to Salem, but each March,
An envelope appears,
From Beverly, informing me my car is in arrears.

I’ve filled out forms, I’ve telephoned
Each year I make the trek
Through city halls and RMV’s.
The records all reflect
That I still live in Beverly. I sigh, and write the check.

You've excised me, fair Beverly!
It worked! I moved away!
Now Salem’s where I live and park,
And Salem’s where I pay!
I pay two taxes, but I think it shouldn’t work that way.
